Where the answers come from
The word relationships come from WordNet 3.0, a lexical database of English built at Princeton University. A link can be an exact synonym (city and metropolis) or a broader or narrower term (city and Kyoto), because crossword setters use both. Exact synonyms are listed first.
Spelling variants such as “make-up” and “make up” share one page, since they fill the same squares.
How matching works
Only letters take up a square. Spaces, hyphens, apostrophes and periods are ignored, so “urban center” is an 11-letter answer, shown as (5,6). Words that contain digits or other symbols can’t be written into a grid and never match a pattern.
